Teleprompter and Eye-Line Setup for Desk Video
Set a teleprompter, lens, script width, and display position for natural eye contact without creating a fragile desk-video workflow.
A teleprompter solves a specific problem: reading prepared language while keeping the eyes close to the lens. It does not automatically improve delivery. Wide lines, fast scroll speed, and a lens too close to the reader can make eye movement more obvious than glancing at notes.
Eye-line geometry
Put the lens behind the center of the reflected text and position the prompter near natural eye level. Narrow the text column so the eyes do not travel far from side to side. Increase subject-to-camera distance when possible; the same physical eye movement is less obvious in a wider composition, though desk depth and lens choice limit that move.

Script for speech, not reading
Use short sentences, visible paragraph breaks, pronunciation notes, and explicit pauses. Put one idea on screen at a time. If the content requires charts or demonstrations, mark the transition rather than forcing every action into a scrolling paragraph.
For conversational lessons, bullets may create better delivery than a verbatim script. A prompter should reduce retakes and preserve eye contact; if it increases stiffness, the script format is wrong for the speaker.

- Set camera height and framing before mounting the prompter.
- Confirm the lens can focus through the glass at the planned distance.
- Check that the camera, prompter, and display mounts are secure.
- Narrow the text column and choose readable type size.
- Rehearse at the final distance and recording pace.
- Inspect the image for reflections, vignetting, and exposure loss.
- Confirm remote control or scroll control does not steal focus from recording software.
- Record a full-length section, not only a ten-second test.
